Christmas 2008 was warm and wonderful at the Dodds home! This was our first Christmas at home on our own and we loved it. We really enjoyed starting some of our own traditions and just spending the day together.
To start the day out we watched the DVD "Joy to the World" put out by the church. We wanted the kids to start the day thinking about the Savior. It definitely set a nice tone for the day. Afterwards we let the kids go downstairs to see what Santa brought them. Santa brought Dicie a karaoke machine, Dallin a Geotrax Air set, Mia a new doll bed, and Jameson a set of sorting blocks.

While the kids played with their new things I cooked up a big yummy breakfast of scones. We all gorged ourselves! After we all got dressed and ready for the day we
finally sat down to open all the presents under the tree. We took our time, opening gifts one by one, so everyone could watch and enjoy the experience. The older kids all loved opening their gifts and Jameson loved playing with the wrapping paper.

I shocked Brett with a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. It was a BIG hit! After all the gifts were opened he got to work setting it up in the living room. We spent the majority of the afternoon playing it together as a family. This was why I finally caved and decided to buy a Wii - fun family "recreational activites!" So far bowling is the favorite.
Overall we had a wonderful Christmas. We are so grateful for our Savior. I love that the celebration of His birth is the highlight of every year.

Sounds like you had a fun day and were able to do it YOUR way, which is definitely the benefit of doing it with your own family. This year at the big family to-do we actually opened gifts one by one with everyone taking a turn, youngest to oldest. They had to sit on the hot seat to open it. It was nice to be able to see what everyone got!
