Kiddie Carnival

Sometimes my kids (Dicie) get a great big idea into their heads and I have two choices. 1) I let them go for it on their own, say 'no' to anything too complicated, and eventually clean up a mess that usually involves a copious amount of paper, or 2) I get on board and help them bring their idea to life. Playing school, grocery store, or fashion show are typical events that seem to be more fun (at least for Dicie) to plan, prepare for, and advertise, than to actually play at! Honestly, most of the time I tend to squash the more ambitious ideas or let them go for it with a handful of restrictions. Once in a while though I'm in need of some bonus Mommy-points, so I pitch in and help them pull off their fancy ideas. The Summer 2011 Kiddie Carnival was just such an occasion!

Dicie, of course, was the brains behind this one. She recruited her friend Nya to help her plan and pull it off. We had a backyard no-fuss carnival that was actually a lot of fun! Our friends the Medina's came, as well as the Thornton's across the street. The girls planned games like a fish pond, bowling, face painting, and several more. Dicie was determined to have tickets, prizes, and food too, so that is where I stepped in and printed some simple tickets, bought a few prizes, and planned the food (hot dogs, etc). After having such a fun time, I think it might just become a summer tradition!

Fun Games - see Jameson "fishing" over the back fence?

The Dads had fun too

I'm sure the carnival will be even bigger and better next year!
