We really had a great Thanksgiving this year! I know I'll look back and remember this one fondly. We decided to travel to Utah to spend the holiday with Grandma and Grandpa Furr and the gang, despite being just weeks away from my due date. I really wanted to have some real quality time as a family, and to perhaps solidify some new traditions. My family is really growing up and I've begun to feel strong urges to develop more traction as time pulls us forward so quickly. I put together an itinerary for our trip hoping it would give us more structure, and it did! The whole Furr gang jumped on board too and we all had a great time.
Thanksgiving morning was set aside for the great Turkey Tournament! Grandma suggested having a kickball game and it turned out to be a great idea. There were no teams, just random and disorganized kicking and fielding. It was perfect that way! It might have been a good idea to explain to our kids how to play kickball before we began, as it might have saved us from saying, "No, run the other way, the other way!" or "Stay on your base - you know that big padded thing!" The bigger kids had it down and I think Dallin probably had the best time. He kept stealing bases and taunting the pitchers and it was hilarious. Jameson only threw about 12 tantrums, which was probably a good day for him. Even the pregnant lady kicked a couple of balls with the help of a designated runner, and everyone was nice enough not to accuse me of hiding the kickball under my shirt.
I took a ton of pictures and as I've been looking through them I've found that I love each and every one. Looking at them as a collective is almost as enjoyable as having been there to see all the action play out. And for once I love that I was using my fixed lens and couldn't zoom. It just adds to that feeling of being there in the sidelines watching the game. So here's the great Turkey Tournament of 2011, played out in snapshots:

Way to go for making some actual plans and carrying them out! I'm trying to do more of that sort of thing with my family too. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun...mostly! ( :
And now I'm bawling all over the place because I didn't get to be there with everyone. Thanks a ton! Humph.( ;
I love the pictures!! What a fun idea. I've been thinking lately that we really need to start some fun traditions as well. I tend to get so wrapped up in preparing for the various holidays to arrive during the year, that I don't plan what to do on the actual day!
We had a great time in Idaho. It sure was a lot more quiet this year than normal, with us being the only ones there with kids! Mom Dodds always makes such a great Thanksgiving dinner. We had 8 pies, and they were all gone in about 2 days!
