Sunday Babysitter

Another crazy Sunday at our house today...

Brett was asked to do Sharing Time in Primary. On 5th Sundays we do a Sharing Time on missionary work and Brett was asked to share some experiences from his mission in the Canary Islands. I did my Primary Chorister duties as well. Can I pause for a moment and just say, we take SO much stuff to church every week I'm seriously considering buying a pack-mule:

Really, it is insane trying to make it in and out of church with all of that stuff AND 5 children! Well, I'll admit we usually lose a kid or two in the process, but we eventually round them all up. So I guess I need a border collie AND a pack-mule.

Anyway, so where was I? Oh yeah, so it was the Brett and Angie Dodds show in Primary today. Unfortunately, Jameson was pretty sick today with a cough, fever, runny nose, the works. I told Brett he could just do Sharing Time AND Singing Time, and (bless his heart) he was very willing to do it, but scared to death! So we decided to leave Dicie home to babysit Jameson. Let me tell you, she was thrilled! The prospect of being responsible as the babysitter for 3 hours was a dream come true for our motherly little girl. It was a great success. Dicie sat and read "Little House on the Prairie" and "The Friend" until Jameson woke up from his nap, then she fed him lunch, read him a story, and put a movie on for him. We have the makings of an excellent babysitter on our hands!

And, by the way, after a few strange looks at church when we told people that we'd left our 8 year old home to watch Jameson, I came home to look up the Idaho law on babysitter age. Ha! There is no law and not even an official guideline! I guess Child Protective Services won't be stopping by anytime soon.

From what I can tell, Idaho babysitters are very well qualified overall. If you don't believe me, read this article (really, you don't want to miss it):

I don't think we'll be leaving Dicie to babysit on a regular basis for a couple more years yet, but it's nice to know that she can handle things when we're really in a pinch!

I know my sister (who is the oldest) was babysitting a few of us by the time she was 8 or 9. And I am sure Dicie is well qualified to watch Jamison for a few hours. It's so nice to have a good helper!

How nice to have a way out of a tricky situation today! I love that babysitter story. Heh heh. I agree it takes waaay too much stuff to get to church!

Holy smokes! You're gonna have to get Dicie a Bear Hunting Tag! Come to think of it, we could probably use one of those up here, too... and a moose one, and a cougar one...

I'm so proud of Dicie! What an awesome girl she is turning out to be-well done you two! I hope you are all feeling well and that this isn't a bug that's going to stick around.
