If you know me well enough, you know that there's one day of the year that I just don't like (and that's putting it nicely). Nope it's not Tax Day, Labor Day, or Cow Appreciation Day (July 15th by the way, did you celebrate?). No, it's my BIRTHDAY. Ugh. Yuck. Double Blech. Sorry to say, but I just don't like it. It's not about getting OLDER, although this year was an exception (saying goodbye to one's twenties is nasty business). I honestly cannot tell you exactly why I despise the day, but I do, and I probably need therapy I know.
Well, this year the day came and went without much fuss and it was actually a relief. And I only had to continuously threaten my husband for a week that he was NOT to do anything for my birthday! It was all for naught though because after our anniversary he decided that he'd found my weak spot. We just happened to be in St. George, so he gave me tickets to CATS at the beautiful outdoor Tuacahn theater! We went the next day, sat dead center on the 5th row, and got goose bumps watching Grizabella sing "Memory" right at our eye level.
Yeah, I know I'm a complete dork for LOVING this musical. But I'm okay with that. I love the music, I love the dancing, I love the characters, and I even found I have developed an appreciation for CATS as a comparitive study of their human counterparts... or something. Okay, so actually my sisters and I used to watch a recording of it on the good old VCR when we were kids and we'd dance around in our underwear fighting over who is Bombalurina and who is Victoria. I'd watched it a million times on our 24" TV, so seeing grown actors dressed up as felines prowling and meowing around the stage didn't throw me for a loop.
"There's a man over there with a look of surprise, as much as to say now, well how about that? Do I actually see with my own very eyes, a man who's not heard of a Jellicle Cat?"
Mwaa ha ha ha ha, now you've got it in your head, don't you?!
Yeah, so Happy-That-One-Day to me!

Geez, I didn't know you hated birthdays like I do!
I also didn't realize you got to go see cats! How neat! I'm totally jealous now. ( :
Hey Angie, Not to lurk or anything, but...
We just went and saw Cats in St. George too! Isn't it the most perfect backdrop? Red rocks, twinkling stars...I hadn't been to the Tuacahn Theater before, had you? I really enjoyed the show, I'm familiar with most of the music but didn't know the story. It was so well done and now that I've read this post I can't get "Memories" out of my head!
